New Amsterdam: A Virtual Continuation

Postby DigificWriter » August 24th, 2008, 12:44 pm

Hi all. I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to propose this, but I have a question for anyone who was a fan of NA and wishes the series wasn't cancelled: what about using the Internet to unofficially continue the show as a 'virtual series'? For anyone who doesn't know what a 'virtual series' is, it's an online continuation - either through fan-written screenplays or fan-written prose stories - of a television property, usually one which was cancelled and/or didn't have the opportunity to satisfactorily conclude its narrative. A few stand-out examples of prominent virtual series include Monster Zero's 'Virtual Jossverse' (http://virtual-mutant.co.uk/), 'Virtual Firefly' (http://www.stillflying.net), and the 'Voyager Virtual Season Project' (http://vv8.jetc.org/). As has been demonstrated with the above-mentioned series, a virtual series, although not the same as an actual official continuation, could offer NA fans a way to reconnect with the characters and re-experience the world of NA. It also might be a way to introduce new people - people who, like myself, may have thought the series was interesting, but did not have the time to watch the series while it was on the air, or people who didn't quite know what to make of the premise and were unsure about watching - to the series and its characters.

Thoughts? Would anybody be interested in spear-heading or working on such a project? Is the NA fandom big enough to justify this kind of thing?

Hi and welcome!

I can't speak for anyone else, as to the question of the NA fandom being big enough, but I would be happy to donate server space to the project. We had some pretty active and talented fanfic writers for a while. I'm sure they could do the series proud, if interested.
