ML seems to average around a million more viewers and about the same in the 18-49 demo. However, I wouldn't directly compare them. ML has something that NA has not had - two vastly more popular shows, in stable time slots, on either side of it. I tend to think ML would be fairing even worse if it were left hanging in the breeze like NA has been.

According to TV by the numbers, The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Network executives Dawn Ostroff (CW), Kevin Reilly (FOX) read it, but note THIS grem re: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles : Reilly: They're really the lead candidates at this point. We've already started staffing on "Sarah Connor'. Although it was an unusual season, it will end up finishing by far and away the strongest new drama of the season. Other shows have not gotten the traction. Just because competition is softer doesn't mean audience has to watch a show.

Looks like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is coming back. Where's New Amsterdam ? Is NA the next one under consideration ? Or NA the "other shows" that have not gotten the traction ? :(

You know, in a perfect world, we'd be able to poll advertisers as to whether they would be willing to support this show for another season by showing them the real fanbase it has, instead of hack numbers from a hopefully-soon-to-be-obsolete ratings system. Image

Just went to the Fox.com site: "Love Hurts", the most popular stream on FOX, has been viewed 599 times. The next viewed is an ep of Bones, at 479. Incredible. No other shows seem to be even in the ballpark.

The 599 times download give NA a spot on the site and not burried by other "features" from Fox. But only 599 times ? I thought it should be more ;)
Like the recent discussion topic on the site rather than "Where is Amsterdam ?" "Don't cancel my show". I wonder what the people managing the site think when they see these posts :knockout: Anyways, I'd rather see some action there than nothing.

The Fox forum only rotates current airing shows now so we don't see NA side by side with Bones and House anymore. Perhaps the people managing the site see the popularity of streaming from NA site, they recently put a CISCO ad on it (same as TSCC). It may be useless but I even humor them by checking the ad when I visit the site.

Even there's reports saying the execs don't consider DVR ratings as important as live ratings but they cannot ignore the changing viewing habit of viewers. :frustrate: On the other hand, I hope iTunes sales will help to bring back NA. We have numbers on streaming, anyone with numbers for iTunes sales ?

Off topic news is that even we've heard about the news for a while, but Back to You has been confirmed with second season by Entertainment Weekly #990, May 9, 2008. Review is not bad by Ken Tucker but it did say
"But with low ratings, the producers are centering on domestic issues and last-minute fixes. They recently replaced the perfectly fine actress (Laura Marano) who played daughter Gracie with a perfectly fine different girl (Lily Jackson). Why?"

I know it's a show in different genre but a show that got "low" rating but regarded as having potential can survive. I never watch Back to You, anyone know their ratings ? As far as I know, the renewal made some tv critics puzzled why. :?

09/19/07 9.48 M 3.1
09/26/07 7.47 M 2.8
10/03/07 6.58 M 2.4
10/10/07 6.63 M 2.3
10/17/07 7.06 M 2.4
11/07/07 6.45 M 2.2
11/14/07 7.31 M 2.5
02/26/08(9:30) 12.15 M 4.4
02/27/08(9:30) 12.15 M 4.4
04/16/08 7.11 M 2.5
04/23/08 7.26 M 2.7
04/30/08 7.12 M 2.6

Looking at the above, their overall number of viewers is actually no better than New Amsterdam. HOWEVER, their A18-49 demo numbers are more promising. I've never watched the series, either, but I understand it to be a comedy and FOX was wanting to make Wednesdays "comedy night".

IMO, B2U is forced and unfunny. It's a throwback to 80s and 90s multicam comedies, but it will be back because it has two big stars FOX doesn't want to lose--Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton.

Something good for Ugly Betty may indirectly impact NA:

'Ugly Betty' may move to New York
Production shifts after tax credits increased
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER
New York may actually star as New York on "Ugly Betty" next season.

ABC Studios is close to moving the show to Gotham next season, in order to take advantage of tax breaks enacted last month by new state Gov. David Paterson.

Under the expansion, the percentage of qualified film production costs eligible for a tax credit tripled, from 10% to 30%. The program was also extended, from its original 2011 expiration to 2013. New York City chips in an additional 5% tax break.

The strengthened tax credit was meant to bring in new productions to New York -- and in the case of "Ugly Betty," already appears to be working.

As the nets and studios look to more aggressively control costs on primetime fare, such a move would help, insiders said.

But the move would put more than 100 Los Angeles-based "Betty" crew members out of work. "Betty" staffers were informed of the potential move on Tuesday -- and some are crying foul.

The show's writing staff, led by showrunner Silvio Horta, would likely remain in Los Angeles. Such a divide is common; "Lost," for example, is written in L.A. but filmed in Hawaii.

Although it takes place in New York, "Betty's" first two seasons were shot in Los Angeles. ABC Studios declined to confirm the potential move.

If the worry about NA is cost, the tax breaks are a reason to be happy. Now the argument can't be sufficiently made that B2U is cheaper to produce even though its ratings are similar.
